I guess the actual nightmarish horror of the colonial period is just too much for the 'cartoon evil dictator game'.Īre you running under Steam? Because that sounds a bit like what might happen if Steam is trying and failing to connect to a server. I don't even think there's a real Slavery system let alone a piracy mechanic, making being a colonial governor in the Caribbean basically flavourless despite the game actually going pre-18th century in theory. Rather than having new mechanics for new eras that replace old ones, they don't have many mechanics based around the past and you have to wait for the modern era to be able to do anything interesting. Basically all the ones before the modern era are a tutorial with limited mechanics that you basically speed through to get to the standard Cold War period. I like the idea of the ages at least, starting as a colonial governor in the 1800's and proceeding into modern times. From the Podcast I heard, the ages in Tropico 5 are absolutely pointless and terrible. Haven't played Tropico 5 although I should. I liked Tropico 4 but it has a ton of DLC you might want to make it a complete experience.
